Tyler Paul Enlisted in the Marine Corps on August 22 2011. He attended basic training at Parris Island, North Carolina and graduated on November 18 2011. Soon after, He completed his training in the Marine Corps Infantry Training Battalion and moved on to his primary specialty training at Goodfellow Air Force base, in San Angelo Texas, where he graduated as a Crash Fire and Rescue (CFR) specialist. He was stationed at Marine Corps Air Base Iwakuni, Japan from July 2012 until July 2014. While in Japan, Tyler was part of detachments to Guam, Tinian Island, and Korea. After Japan, he moved to 29 Palms California where he served as a CFR Section Leader, Training Chief, and Squadron Training NCO. He served in leadership positions during multiple detachments and training situations as a Sergeant until the end of his five year contract where he received a Naval Achievement Medal and ended his active service on August 21 2016.
Tyler is now a student at Syracuse University’s College of Arts and Sciences where he studies in hopes of graduating with a B.S in Biology. He is an active member of the Student Veterans association at the school and plans on running for a position as an officer with the organization. He is also seeking a position as an undergraduate researcher in a biology lab and devotes much of his time to furthering his studies.
After graduating, Tyler plans to continue onto graduate school and obtain a PhD in Biology. He hopes to make a large contribution to the scientific community through cancer research and studies on human longevity. Tyler also hopes to have an opportunity to take part in the search for life on other planets and hopes to one day travel to space himself.
I was born in Montclair California where I was raised until my Dad joined the Navy as a Pilot. Around 6 we moved to Corpus Christy Texas, Jacksonville Florida, Oak Harbor Washington, El Centro California and Dallas Texas. Once I graduated from high school in 2008, I joined the Army where I served 4 years at Ft Drum, NY during that I did a tour to Iraq. I’m currently a junior in Whitman studying Accounting with the graduation date projected to be May 2017. From the time spent in the army to now I have found how rewarding it is to see others grow and succeed. I’m looking to take what I’ve learned in the Army and college to a level of professionalism that will reach more people and grow the organization so that more underrepresented groups have the same opportunity that I’ve been able to thrive with. Currently, I am serving as the president of NABA (National Association of Black Accountants) and the secretary of the SVO. Upon graduation, I will be working for GE in the Financial Management Program.
